Dems do not have the votes

November 6, 2009

As of last night, Pelosi needed about 20 votes to reach 218 and bring H.R. 3962 to the floor.  Yesterday, it was rumored she lost two committee chairs, Reps. Rahall and Gordon.  Today, Obama is coming up to the Hill to twist/break arms.

Keep the calls coming.  I doubt she will bring H.R. 3962 for a vote if she has less than 218.  It is important to make Pelosi fail to meet her self-imposed deadline of Saturday.

House Democrat leaders are trying to keep their Members from going home until they take a vote on health care.  Dem Leaders know if their Members go home and get confronted by their constituents they will be less likely to vote for the health care bill.

Oh the nuttery!

November 4, 2009

Check this out- Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared victory today!  It is important not to try to argue with a statement like that, but rather let the words be heard in their totality.  I think there are only two reasons that could underly the decision to make such a statement:

1.  Mental illness.

2.  Extreme arrogance and contempt for others (who one assumes are simple enough to be manipulated into believing such an outrageous statement).

I think the latter reason makes more sense in Pelosi’s case.  Check out the story in Politico:

“Blood that drips from his teeth”

November 4, 2009

This is the type of talk that routinely comes from Alan Grayson (D-FL).  This man is incredibly filled with hate.  He is practically frothing at the mouth.  Note, Chris Matthews has to bring him back to reality.  Apparently, he was only a dissertation away from a Ph.D at Harvard.

The Maine marriage ballot initiative

November 3, 2009

TV personalities have been touting how close the vote is on repealing Maine’s law which permits gay marriage.  A closer look at the question posed, demonstrates how the question is extremely biased (and potentially confusing) and likely written directly the gay lobby.  As you can see below, the question is specifically tailored to encourage libertarians and social moderates to vote no.  If worded more neutrally, I predict the “yes” side could receive at least another 5-10%.

“Do you want to reject the new law that lets same-sex couples marry and allows individuals and religious groups to refuse to perform these marriages?”

What was promised to Dede?

November 3, 2009

This weekend then-GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava suspended her campaign in the NY-23 special election.  Scozzafava was suffering from dismal poll numbers, an inability to raise funds, and a depressed Republican base (due to Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman).  For the record, Scozzafava was a pro-tax increase, pro-abort, pro-gay marriage, pro-card check, and pro stimulus package “Republican” who was selected to be the GOP’s candidate by local GOP party leaders.

Shortly after being contacted by Representative Steve Israel (D-NY) and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), a disaffected Scozzafava threw her support to the Democratic candidate Bill Owens.  It will be interesting to see if President Obama provides her with a position in his Administration.  In addition, I suspect the Administration will use her as evidence for their claim that moderates are unwelcome in the Republican Party.

The pang of conscience

November 2, 2009

A Brazos Valley Planned Parenthood Director resigned after watching the ultrasound image of an abortion.  It is interesting to note during the news clip, Planned Parenthood ordered the director to try to increase the number of abortions to pad its bottom line.

How relevant are CBS News/NY Times Obama job approval polls?

October 6, 2009

How can any poll not account for 11 percent of the electorate?  After a contentious August, a bitter debate on climate change/cap and trade legislation, Obama’s pro-abort activism, and the Officer Crowley incident (which had a tangible effect on his numbers with working class whites) how can any serious pollster publish such incomplete results?  Obviously, their methodology must be flawed.  We are nine months into Obama’s term!  Nervermind, the fact CBS News/NY Times Obama job approval polls are outliers among their peers.  Check out these recent nutty CBS News/NY Times polls below:

CBS News/NY Times 9/19 – 9/23   Approve 56 Disapprove 33 Spread +23
CBS News 8/27 – 8/31   Approve 56 Disapprove 35 Spread  +21
CBS News/NY Times 7/24 – 7/28   Approve 58 Disapprove 30 Spread +28
CBS News 7/9 – 7/12    Approve 57 Disapprove 32 Spread +25
CBS News/NY Times 6/12 – 6/16    Approve 63 Disapprove 26 Spread +37

More health care shenanigans from the White House

October 6, 2009

This is literally what we are dealing with on health care reform.  We hear Democrats constantly complaining about distortions on the right and then they go and do things like this:

The Drudge Report and “Arabs” references

October 5, 2009

What is it with the Drudge Report leading with a story entitled: “ARABS PLOT TO DROP DOLLAR”?  It is important not to refer to Islamic, oil-producing countries as “the Arabs”.  First, there are non-oil producing Arab countries that are not plotting to devalue the dollar (ie Jordan and Lebanon).  Second, Christian Arabs in the Middle East and the United States are always inadvertently lumped in with Islamic Arabs.  Given the sharp differences between the Christian and Islamic Arab communities, it does a disservice to both to confuse them.

The National Parks: Ken Burns’s Worst Idea

October 3, 2009

At the outset, it is important to note Ken Burns is probably the eminent documentary producer in the United States.  He did a fantastic job with Baseball and the Civil War.

Nevertheless, after watching parts one and two I was more than a little disappointed by all the interviewed liberals waxing religious.  Simple neo-animism parading as deep thought.  Don’t get me wrong, the film is probably catnip for environmentalists, but it made me ashamed to know that John Muir came from Wisconsin.
